John A. Heit, MD, FACP, FACC, is Professor of Medicine; Consultant, Section of Vascular Diseases, Division of Cardiovascular Diseases and Internal Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine; and Director, Section of Hematology Research and Coagulation Clinic, Division of Hematology and Internal Medicine, at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Heit is board certified in Internal Medicine and Vascular Medicine.

Dr. Heit obtained his undergraduate degree and was awarded the Dr. and Mrs. J.C. Erwin Fellowship in Pre-Medical Studies from Austin College, Sherman, Texas. He received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, where he also served as President of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Heit completed an internal medicine internship at Baylor Affiliated Hospitals, and an internal medicine residency at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. He performed fellowships in clinical research design and analysis, as well as cardiovascular disease and vascular medicine at Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Heit is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Cardiology, and a member of the American Medical Association and American Society of Hematology. He is a reviewer for the American Journal of Hematology, Thrombosis and Haemostasis, and New England Journal of Medicine, and serves on the editorial board of Thrombosis Research. Dr. Heit has been invited to present his work at over sixty local, national, and international conferences and symposia. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and numerous other book chapters and abstracts.
